Larkhall needs a new running track to boost our athletics and the YMCA running teams. Many people pointed out in our community surveys that the current running track attached to the school is not fit for purpose and is not built to competition standard.
The Partnership has been working hard to secure funding to upgrade the track.
Potential upgrade options and draft costs have been discussed with South Lanarkshire Council and South Lanarkshire Leisure and Culture over a long period of time. These discussions continue as we believe this would be of great benefit to the town and enhance the facilities within the Leisure Campus.
YMCA event group coach, Willie Mowbray, said he is hopeful that there could be a phase 2 in the leisure centre construction: “With the leisure centre there, and the school there, and there are good pitches, the Council might see it as a good thing here to have a proper running track.
“What’s there is ok, but a synthetic surface would be far better.”
